Though the intention was that I nap only for a few hours, Fräulein Horváth—either out of sympathetic kindness or, more likely, the selfish desire to keep Kristof all to herself for the night—let me sleep through till morning. Kristof still naked and improbably sporting a fierce morning erection had, it turned out, ejaculated twice more during the night, and he was doing his best to recall the corresponding dreams in as much detail as he could. If only the words flowed from him as readily as semen did.

I pulled up a chair and sat outside the gauze tent, eavesdropping on the conversation. My heart skipped a beat when he described a dream in which he had been penetrating a young woman’s bosom with his manhood. It was troublingly as though our dreams had somehow cross pollinated, and more troubling still when he described the breasts in question: round, firm, heavy, lightly freckled on top and, most pertinently of all, with dainty pale pink nipples at their bobbing summits, which slowly disappeared under a lake of semen that had—both in dream and simultaneously in real life—emitted from the bulbous extremity of his straining penis. Fräulein Horváth pressed him on the description of the breasts, asking him to really think as hard as he could. He insisted that those were the breasts of which he had dreamt, and he didn’t seem to understand why Fräulein Horváth was as disappointed as she seemed. I knew it was only a matter of time before she once again abandoned her scientific ethics and began flaunting herself to him in an effort to inveigle her way into his dreams.

Fräulein Horváth was always difficult to live with when she went into one of her envious sulks, but it occurred to me with a shudder that she had never seen my own breasts nude. It was clearly Sister Amelia in Kristof’s dreams, but if she were ever to suspect me of being the object of his most profound sexual desires… I shuddered to think what it would be like to get on the wrong side of this terrible woman.
